Yucca

Today's the day ………………………. for another one that got away

Another surprise in the garden is that the yucca plant is flowering - and this time there are three  flower spikes.

Yuccas have a very special way of being pollinated, namely by the yucca moth.  The insect purposefully transfers the pollen and at the same time lays an egg in the flower.  The moth larva then feeds on some of the developing seeds but always leaves enough seed to perpetuate the species.

The only problem could be that it's quite a while since there's been a yucca moth in our back garden …………………..
