Fun and games on the village green

Tiny village in the valley, balmy September afternoon, local people joining together to organise traditional entertainments: egg and spoon race, egg catching,  wheelbarrow slalom, welly wanging, craft making, a barbecue etc. The vicar, the bobby, the local councillor, a farmer or two, mums and dads, grandparents and dogs, all pitched in to make for a fun afternoon, to catch up on gossip and share few laughs.

The children of our refugee family participated enthusiastically and even the littlest one tottered around the field hand in hand with her sister and a new friend not much bigger than herself (bottom right).

We are waiting/hoping to host a second family soon. It's heartbreaking to think that they and so many others remain still in the camps and not safe in places like this doing this sort of stuff.
