South Coast Scribblings

Castle Combe

We visited this lovely village today and the weather was perfect. We were a bit crafty and ignored the car park and drove on into the village - and somehow managed to find a parking space down the road alongside this stream! It would have been a long walk back uphill from the village to the car park and at least two of the three of us would not have found it easy.

We had a look in the very interesting old church - which was rebuilt in the 1850’s exactly as it had been before due to problems with the foundations. They had discovered really old wall paintings from the 1200’s which had been hidden behind a wall for hundreds of years, which were very interesting to see. There was also a tomb from the 1200’s which I will put in extras, together with a couple of other photos of the church and the old market cross.

Apparently the film ‘War Horse’ was filmed in the village, and there was a display of photos in the church.
