Poppy

End of Summer

The garden has done really well this year, with bumper crops of some things, but as usual failures in others.  This year's onions and garlic are very poor, but terrific crops of strawberries, legumes and leafy veg.

Now everything is looking overgrown and I am itching to get it cut back and tidied up a bit!  The fennel is huge and will fall down in the autumnal gales unless I cut it.  Gardening books talk about leaving plants so they will look beautiful in the frost and snow, but here we just have rain and gales and they simply get blown over, go black and rot!

I shall leave it a while in the hope of a few more sunny days to come, but the secateurs are ready to go!
