Waiting

They often stay like this for a few weeks and then something will pull the trigger and they will burst open in all their beauty.

This is a Gymnocalicium denudatum hybrid. The name comes from gymnos meaning naked and calyx, a collective term for sepals. The buds have neither hairs or spines.

In the wild they grow mainly in Argentina and neighbouring countries.

I am very pleased that one Blip follower has bought some cacti as a result of seeing my cactus flower blips.
Many cacti do not flower in our conditions or at least not for very many years. If you think you might like to try a few the best easy ones for flowers are Rebutia, Gymnocalicium, Lobivia and Mamillaria.
