Helmsdale

On our way up North we took a wander round Helmsdale.
The bridge over the River Helmsdale was built by Thomas Telford in 1808-9, described as 'being of coarse rubble and having two segmental arches, each of 70ft span, with triangular stepped cutwaters continuing up the spandrels as semi-hexagonal pillars to the parapet, forming pedestrian refuges at road level.

Now in Kirkwall, looking forward to a week of exploration.
