Typhoon Mangkhut

Oh my word!!!!!! What a day it has been.

We have just experienced the worst storm we’ve ever been in ... it was powerful and quite scary, and we were truly grateful for the safe and secure building we live in.

It was exhausting. We were mopping up rain water which streamed through the windows for at least 5 hours. Wringing towels till our wrists could wring no more, I then started using the washing machine’s spin cycle.

Thankfully there were three of us manning the whole front side of our house. And we were still exhausted.

There is a LOT of damage to Hong Kong, so if you’re thinking of traveling here in the next few days, I’d leave it for at least a week (!!!).

Martin has talked about the big cyclone in Townsville, QLD, Australia in the ‘70s for years, but he said this was even more intense than that. And definitely the strongest storm/typhoon I’ve ever been in.

I’m feeling sorry for the folk who’s homes have been devastated and office buildings that are damaged. The footage has been humbling. The power of Mother Nature!

We stayed home all day and watched from the safety of home. The golf cart in this picture put up a great fight for hours, and once the worst of it was over, a huge gust passed and just flipped it. It was sad to see, cause these golf carts cost GBP200,000 and would be the pride of its owners, but completely exposed to the weather.

Anyway, we are safe and have got everything back to normal. Still strong winds out there, and rain, but nothing like the howling we’ve had all day.

Will sleep well tonight. Ben’s last day in HK ...
