From the outside in

I stayed in today and crocheted streptococcus. Not something you say every day!

The University of Manchester contacted me via the crochet/knit group I run to ask if we could make phage and bacteria for the Manchester Science Festival.

Bacteriophages or 'phages' are viruses that infect bacteria. With antibiotic resistance becoming an issue, more attention has been paid to using these viruses as a specific alternative to antibiotics. Phage therapy is over a century old and was a promising treatment in the 1920's and 30's but was eclipsed by the mass production of antibiotics during World War II.

When your Facebook group page starts to be filled with E.coli, cholera and salmonella, you know you have the best group who will get involved in all the weird and wonderful projects you suggest.

I wandered round the garden in between the rain and could see that the colours are really starting to change. I looked at the leaves and noticed how they start to die from the outside in. It got me thinking about how external negativity and other people's issues can really disturb your inner peace, making you first crinkle at your edges before it creeps slowly inwards.

Quote for today:
Do not let the behaviour of others destroy your inner peace.
