Blackberry Picking

With blackberry eyes open and nettle eyes closed,
down Devon's soft lanes on a favourite route,
we set off in haze, but we carried home shadows
and a bag sweetly swinging a pound of ripe fruit.

At 374 grams, today's pickings actually weigh just short of a pound. It was our first longish walk for a couple of weeks, and sadly some of the blackberries were going mouldy on their stems. At the time we should have been picking them, Mr PP was languishing in a hospital bed - so it's all his fault! Hem hem - we still have plenty to accompany apples for more delicious crumbles and custard ...

Don't miss our other bounty from Mr PP's sister's garden that I back-blipped earlier today! Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness ...
