George Stephenson's Cottage

Today I walked a 4.6 miles' roundtrip down to The National Trust's 'Stephenson's cottage' and back with the doggies.

Born here in 1781, George Stephenson spent the first 8 years of his life in this cottage in Wylam which was shared with three other families. His family occupied just one room!

Horse drawn waggons passed by the cottage everyday and it is believed that this is what influenced him in pioneering the use of steam engines and steel rails in his later career.
