My son headed off south to Edinburgh for the first stage of his journey home. My wife went with him so that she could spend time with our daughter. There was a degree of uncertainty caused by the weather, in particular whether the bridges would be open. Fortunately they arrived safely.

In the evening, along with my granddaughter, I went to a gathering where Ann Cleeves was speaking. Ann wrote the Vera series and the Shetland series of books. Her latest book, Wild Fire, is the last in the Shetland series. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening and we look forward to reading the signed copy of the book.
