Salt Flats

We took our friends out to the Ile d’Oleron for a visit to our favourite restaurant in the Port des Salines. Its a wooden shack on the estuary in the middle of oyster, mussels and salt producers. It has a sign on the door thats tells prospective customers that its best not to ask for ‘moules frites’, a local fabourite, because they don’t sell them. Their food is original and delicious, but costs a little more than usual, which is why we only go a couple of times a year. The pic is of the salt bays getting ready for harvesting. The cabin in the corner sells the local salt. It is fantastic for cooking.
