Slender-billed Gull

A lovely surprise on our Sicily tour has been the large number of slender-billed gulls we've seen. (We've seen them previously, but only individuals, in southern France.)  They are very attractive, often with a rosy tinge on the breast.  The day's outing was to take a boat just off the coast, to Motya Island (Mozia in Italian), historically fascinating. It was first settled by the Phoenicians in the 8th century BC, followed by the Greeks and the Romans.  We visited the Whitaker Museum, named for the archeologist/ornithologist who first explored the island. Better weather today--mainly sunny, but we went through a downpour (and a rainbow :) returning to the hotel.

Posted next morning--I've marked the map for the island.
