Life in a Northern Town

Stuff

The desk in extras belonged to John’s grandfather; it has been part of John’s life for nearly fifty years and of mine for 25 years, and although it has sentimental value it’s big, impractical and absolutely ram packed full of junk.

I found baby records, pretty much every greetings card we have received this century, manuals for all the electronic devices we ever bought (with the exception of any we do still actually own), maps, mix tapes, bank books address books, receipts for long gone toys, wooden set squares. fountain pens, photo negatives, holiday itineraries and boarding cards from the 90s and about 2000 elastic bands. Also a set of alarmingly ‘erotic’ playing cards but the less said about them the better!!!

It’s now almost empty and will soon be on its way, along with the snooker table as I reclaim the room for a second lounge.

It was cathartic and the recycling bin is now bulging.
