At first sight these look like huge men of war jelly fish. In fact they are lights, made for an artisan exhibition in Venice. They are both beautiful and evocative at the same time. They shimmer in their own luminescence. They are a man-made artefact created to represent a natural wonder. Although they are exquisite, they remain a pale representation of the real thing. It is creation and re-creation in contrast.

So while I stand in awe of the craftsmen and women who created these beauties, I am beyond wonder when I recall the natural phenomenon which they represent.

It surely is unique – utilitarian as it is a creature made to fit its environment, yet a thing of sheer beauty and peerless presence.
