Patchy Bluebird

I'm assuming this bluebird is molting.  I'm also assuming it's a male, given the blue that remains on his back, but I'm not sure about that either.  I was quite surprised to see him at all, and thrilled to find he had some friends at the garden.  I went to look for hummingbirds, but it's yet another gray, drizzly day, so the lighting wasn't ideal for capturing those speedy wings.  It has been several weeks since I've seen a bluebird.   I was content to watch them sit on the fences, check out a bird house for winter lodging, and fluff up to shake off the raindrops.  I have no idea what attracted them today but I'm happy I timed it so well.
