Roofer

Progress today. Unexpectedly the roofer turned up to fit the pipe through the roof for the extractor hood. I’d not met him before.

As he wandered up the pavement towards me, woolly hat, dreadlocks, jeans splattered , I was not sure who this person was.

.But heard his assistant knuckled dowbn and completed the task, albeit with lots of drilling and sawing and banging.

Shifted many more boxes and wiped or washed their content.

Took a beak early evening to attend the 2018 Judicial Institute lecture given this year in Parliament Hall, by Judge TIm Eicke QC. The topic was “The role of ECHR in a post-truth, post-trust Europe”. I look forward to the transcript to fully follow the arguments - many referring to the courts rulings - but there was aheful exposition of the purpose and background to the court, why it was established post WWII, and th role it played in the development of European institutions. And the key role the UK played in its establishment.

Many of the chall noes facing the court are separating out fact and purpose and determining whether or not the actions or laws meet the founding principles of the Convention..

Met, amongst others, a couple of former Crown Office colleagues, now Sheriiffs, our new office neighbour if plans proceed, Nick from the Children’s Commissioner’s office.

Then back to shift funiture around to get it back to where it used to be.
