Architecture Design versus Building Reality

It is very interesting watching an architectural design translate into some kind of physical reality. What you design is'nt what you always get however. Or the design can just be plain wrong because the designer does not think through the physical reality in enough detail.

Luckily we have a great builder but a rather absent architect. We will let the viewer try to work out the small design flaw as it unfolds!

The extension project is coming along very fast. However there was a programme on TV tonight where they were showing tall and fast constructions. The Chinese can put a 15 storey block of flats up in 15 days - complete. Our extension will take over 3 months. This makes you think!

Is Design a science or an art? Is it about aesthetics or more a process of construction? These are important questions and could represent a challenge to professions such as architecture. Will automation in the form of BIM deskill designers or just change the way the Discipline is defined. Can we migrate design skills into the building profession and then transform architects back into artists?

We will ponder these things as we progress. I may even write about them!
