Maternity ward

This is a photo of a nurse and a GP that I rounded with the this morning, at Yekatit 12 hospital. In the photo, he is listening to the baby's heartbeat with a fetoscope. It was extremely busy. I lost count, but I think the GP had to see about 40 patients, in 2 hours.

There were post c-section, post regular delivery patients, as well as expectant moms with various health conditions that were threatening the health of mom, baby, or both. People were hospitalized for the same indications that they would be in Canada. Although the surroundings were different, the care seemed high quality, and similar to what would be provided back home.

The wards were cramped, and families were kicked out (by necessity) when rounds were going on.
