On Strike

... or as the front page headline of The Boston Globe puts it:  "The Inhospitality Sector".

Hotel workers at the seven Boston hotels managed by the Marriott chain are striking because of an inability to reach agreement on a satisfactory contract.  To make things more interesting, the union representing UPS workers say they will not cross picket lines to deliver food or other packages, and the garbage haulers are also respecting the strike.  As our apartment is part of the Ritz-Carlton, we are affected in a small way -- no doormen, no UPS deliveries, no garbage pickup.

I must say I do sympathise with the strikers -- Boston is a very expensive place to live, and these people work very hard.  In my experience they have been unfailingly pleasant, professional, and helpful.  Let's hope a settlement agreeable to both sides is reached soon.
