Ear Bashing

Late blip tonight as we were at the Caird Hall in Dundee for the first concert of the RSNO's 2018 -19 season and we had our ears well and truly bashed by the performances!  The first piece only lasted 5 minutes, but it was 5 minutes too long!  The elderly lady next to me, who had been so enthusiastic about the return of the concerts, point blank refused to clap as she said it was the most appalling thing she had ever heard!  Oh dear!

It did improve with a virtuoso performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No 2 and Mahler's 5th Symphony, especially the sublime fourth movement in the latter that everyone recognises as it was used in "Death in Venice".

Then there was just the small matter of getting out of the car park!  Huge queues of cars and people, as Dundee City Council have apparently sold the parking rights to a private company and you now have to pay after 6 pm!  It's always been free up until now and it caught everybody out.  We will think twice about going to the Caird Hall again (though actually we are there again on Saturday!!)
