South Bank

A trip to London today to visit a few photography exhibitions.

There was a very impressive outdoor exhibition in St James Park. It featured photos of landscapes past and present of war zones in WW1 accompanied by large display boards recounting the horrors of this war and historical facts that were very harrowing to learn.

After visiting two exhibitions at the National Portrait Gallery we crossed the Thames to the South Bank, which is one of our favourite London places. The weather was wonderful, hot and sunny with a cloudless blue sky. We had lunch on an upstairs terrace of a restaurant overlooking the river. It felt as though Summer had returned. When we left home this morning, there was thick fog and it was quite cold. This evening it is 22C and it was a pleasure to walk home from the station.

After our lunch we went to the Hayward Gallery to visit the Drag Exhibition which we found quite disappointing. Our final visit was to the Royal Festival Hall to see an exhibition of art by ex-offenders, secure patients and detainees from the 2018 Koestler Awards. Entitled "I'm Still Here" this was a very thought provoking exhibition featuring art works, poetry and songs from people who have lost their freedom.

My blip is taken from the South Bank looking towards the Oxo Tower with the City of London in the background.
