Drilling wheat...

After all the excitement of a holiday and then the Race Day and Season Finale at The Shuttleworth Collection it has been a much quieter day today.

I went over to see Michael and Chris on their farm and found them loading up the seed drill with wheat. Michael has a day of drilling ahead of him while Chris will be spending his time digging ditches to protect this field from trespass by illegal hare coursers... They were in the area again on Sunday driving over growing crops and prepared seed-beds causing damage and loss to the farmers and threatening the dwindling hare population,  not to mention the time, effort and fuel that is used trying to prevent them getting on the land.

Hunting animals with dogs is illegal but it still goes on, sometimes under a thin veneer of respectability with pink jackets and horses and often as on Sunday by some quite vile people using stolen vehicles and threats of violence to any that may be unwise enough to tackle them.

Sadly the police resources needed to properly deal with hare coursing are just not available... there are very few arrests made and much less successful prosecutions.
