death under tower bridge, london

i must have walked past tower bridge a hundred times and never known about this little archway underneath the north side with steps down to the river.
a sign on the wall told me that this is where the river corpses were brought ashore and then kept in a small morgue (doorway on right) before being identified by their families.
it felt awful standing where so much grief must have been felt.
i was still thinking about it when i came home and suddenly remembered a painting by g f watts found drowned and wondered if this same arch might have inspired this work.
apologies if this is a bit macabre.
