Wandering cattle

Last night we were distracted by police lights flashing outside our place. The phone then rang and it was the police in Christchurch to tell us 4 bulls were running along our road towards state highway 8. I passed this onto Peter who contacted the neighbour who contacted the next neighbour. So the police car with flashing lights, 3 retired codgers on their 4 wheel motor bikes guided the 4 very quiet but unsettled 3 year old cattle into our paddock. A bit scary because it was dark by then, the cattle black and the potential horrific consequences in everyone's mind.

They were fine for the night, as it happened, but they had to be moved to their proper paddock along the road in the morning.

Two cars with hazard lights, 4 4wheel motor bikes, lots of advice and discussion and the cattle were out of our paddock, across the road, along the fence line, round the corner and, thankfully, through the correct open gate.

Photo is the 4 cattle in our paddock this morning before they were moved.
