Point and Shoot

The Bund, Shanghai

From two strolls along the Shanghai waterfront, evening and day, I remember the vast crowds of people, many taking photographs of each other.  It was the first stop on a tour of four cities and my first visit to Shanghai.  Although the new architecture is astonishing, it was the older buildings that caught my eye.

I stayed at the Jinjiang Hotel in a complex of 1920s/1930s buildings in the French Concession. This turned out to be the best hotel of the trip, though not the newest.  The rooms were spacious, the lobby was elegant and welcoming and the location was good for reaching shops, restaurants and parks.  The coffee was good but incredibly expensive.
