Chutney

I’ve got a vast pot of green tomato and apple chutney still bubbling away in the kitchen tonight. It’s an old recipe of my Granny’s. It mentions among other prehistoric imperial measurements a quart of vinegar. Had to think for a minute how much that was. It’s written in my Mum’s hand and is the only thing I have left which is I think. Makes me smile when I read her advice to tie up the pickling spice tightly in muslin in case it escapes during cooking which apparently happened to Granny once. ‘ Disastrous’ as my mum notes.
