A Writer's Life

Second child effect

I didn’t start going to the park with Oli until he was two. And when I did, I stayed close by, helping him climb and slide and explore. Henri is one, doesn’t walk yet, but since he likes to explore on his own, I don’t have much choice but to let him. Today, he climbed the stairs alone. I call it the second child effect: independence fostered by apparent neglect.
