New Lanark

We went to New Lanark for a day trip. I was very impressed by the complexity of the industrial site and its history. Robert Owen, owner of the New Lanark textile mills between 1800 and 1820 can be considered the founder of social and educational reforms in the early industrial revolution. He realised his ideas of better working conditions and welfare by implementing better housing and education for his workforce and their children.
The mills and tenements were active until 1968. They were then restored and are now UNESCO world heritage., well worth visiting.
