Monomonday: Long Player

Inspired by Saturday's National Album Day and the fact that the weather has been so miserable that I haven't got out much, I've been playing a few of my old LPs the last few days.

This morning's accompaniment to the weekly bread baking was Power In The Darkness by the Tom Robinson Band. When it came out in 1978 I was a newly qualified teacher in my first post in a big (over 2000 students) South London comprehensive school and a sense of social injustice, unrest, anger and despair was pretty widespread. Tom Robinson's music seemed to capture the mood perfectly.

shows them playing the first track on side two, Winter of '79, in January 1979; four months later Maggie Thatcher came to power and this album seemed even more relevant. Worryingly, some of the lyrics and sentiments still seem relevant today.

Anyway, bearing in mind the theme for today's challenge, this blip harks back to when you had to do more than press Play to listen to your music.
