The piledriver

This land a piece of scrub with a few scruffy horses when last we saw it. Now the developers have moved in, which may be an optimistic sign the Spanish economy is on the turn. So many shops still closed and some of the stunning old properties in Jerez, fine town houses redolent of the prosperous sherry years of the 18th and 19th Century, when the British discovered their liking for the true amber nectar but now boarded up and unoccupied.
Interestingly it’s a British engineering company, Keller, doing the groundwork. It is a worldwide success with contracts in every region, and stands to benefit every time there’s a revival in infrastructure. For once a U.K. business to be proud of.
( the concrete blocks driven in the ground remind me almost of tombstones)
