"Dancing and Romancing"

This was the theme for the Allegro Appassionato concert at lunchtime in Louth's library. Barbara Tune is an accomplished violinist based in Scunthorpe and Charles Edmondson a distinguished pianist (and organist) for whom this was his thirteenth performance at Allegro - and he travels from Kendal in Cumbria.

It is remarkable that Allegro Appassionato, a voluntary organisation run by a too small committee, has been going for 25 years, offering a wide range of classical performances mixed in with contributions from folk and jazz artists, all of whom receive only travel expenses. There are 36 concerts a year, with breaks at Christmas and in the summer, attracting average audiences of 65-70 who make voluntary contributions which just about cover the running costs.
