Baby Giants

These 7 Sequoia trees are only 157 years old. They were planted in 1861 by a forester from Landstuhl.
The biggest one reaches about 45 meters in height and its stem diameter measures more than 2 meters. In the blip the biggest baby is in front, the 6 smaller ones are hiding behind.

The Sequoiadendron gigantea (Giant Redwood or Wellingtonia) is the giant amongst the trees. They can reach heights up to 95 meters and stem diameters up to 17 meters. The oldest ones in the Sierra Nevada in California, USA, are up to 2600 - 2700 years old.

The seven Babies in Landstuhl are a botanical exception in our region.

I was out looking for chestnut trees when I stumbled over the Mammutbäume. Haven't been there in a while. Couldn't notice any growth. :-))
