The Picture House

Drawn like moths, we come
To share dreams on plush red seats.
Escaping the dark.

This is The Picture House in Uckfield. It has been an independent cinema since 1920 and has been run by one family since 1964. You can see something of the history here.

Uckfield is only a small rural town and we are very lucky to have this treasure of a cinema, without which we would have to travel to Tunbridge Wells or Brighton to see a film.

As well as films they do live streaming of opera (Royal Opera House and the Met) and theatre (National Theatre) and once a month have live stand up comedy.

We went to see Skyfall (well you've got to haven't you), which I thought was a good. I have always hated the Bond films, but since their resurrection with Daniel Craig they have been better ... more like thriller adventure than sexist fantasy. And there's Daniel Craig of course ..... Actually one the most enjoyable things about the film for me was the music ..... not just the theme, but the music throughout the film and especially the bit at the end when the credits were rolling .....

Oh well ... on with Sunday ....
