Wind and rain

Out on the Castle Meadows this morning to see if the River Usk has overflowed its banks. Not yet, though when more water comes down from the Brecon Beacons, it might. The river is very swollen, but I reckon it needs another metre before the Castle Meadows are swamped. Meanwhile, they meadows are doing a pretty good job on their own simply from the rain. But the drizzle kindly decided to hold off while I took this blip.
I learned a few days ago that the Meadows are the only public land adjoining the Usk that is still managed in the traditional way - with twice yearly mowings for hay, and cattle grazing in the latter months of the year.
