Convento do Carmo

We abandoned our plans to visit further afield and instead spent time exploring the areas of Lisbon we had not yet visited in a more relaxed manner.  It was a beautiful warm sunny day as we headed out down the Avenue da Liberdade on the way to the main market and its gourmet food hall - Time Out, although it was too early to eat yet.  We travelled up the amazing Elevator da Bica which from the lower level you enter through a door to reveal the steep climb up the streets by funicular, see extra.  We had previously tried to find the ruins of the Convento do Carmo but it was impossible to easily find as the tall buildings around it obscured it from where we were.  This time it was on our list of places to find and we were impressed with its structure.  We viewed Lisbon from several high viewpoints, visited the Botanical gardens and indulged in some more espresso and custard tarts.  A great last day.
