Wistful

We had a day in Silloth, where it was of course windy (it always is in my experience), but there was sunshine too. The girls were treated to a tour, which took in Grandad’s school, the house where he was born, the house he lived in as a child, etc. They feigned interest!

After a walk along the windy prom and a search for fairy doors, lunch at The Fairydust Emporium was very welcome. A brilliant place, very difficult to describe - packed with vintage stuff, sparkles and fairy lights, bells to ring when you want to order, 50s soundtrack, a huge doll’s house to organise . . . and fairy wands to purchase (see extra).

Then we went along to Allonby, where Mummy remembered going as a child, and we walked along by the sea. Some were determined to paddle (see extra) and some just collected pebbles and shells. Had to be ice creams in Allonby. Hot chocolate and ice cream in one day - well, it’s that time of year.

And the wistful look?
This 12 year old still remembers being in this very spot when she was very young and her taggy fell from her hand and into the sea. What a disaster. She never knew what happened to it, but has over the years created many scenarios. Today I think she hoped that a dolphin was going to leap up and hand it to her. Nice idea, but it didn’t happen, sadly.
