A Portobello Portal

I trained as an architect and still worship at the altar of the Modernists, so everything about this edifice should be toxic to me...the wallpaper stonework, the fake turrets, the strange glorifying murals, the horror story mash-up of typefaces and lighting, everything should make me shudder...
And yet it doesn't, instead I'm drawn to it....
carried through with such gusto, such confident detail, I feel welcomed every time I arrive in Portobello.
Don't tell any of my friends, please, let it be my guilty secret.
