And it was a cold, damp, dreary day that needed a little cheer, especially as the clocks went back last night, and the long, dark winter nights are upon us. A day when the news was best avoided - yesterday's helicopter crash in which Leicester City's football manager and four others died; and eleven people shot dead during a baby-naming ceremony at a synagogue in Pittsburgh. Unspeakably depressing; but life carries on.

We pottered through the day, MrM in the workshop, while I continued wading through the 'to do' list. Yesterday, one of MrM's pupil's gave us some eggs, freshly laid by her hens, and some cooking apples. This evening, I used some of each to make a toffee-apple upside down cake - warming comfort food. There followed a cosy evening, and a glass of red...
