Salvage from the Wreckage

By NickMogToo

After an early run and an early lunch, C and I headed to Oxford. The drive across the city was frustrating (not sure how late the Park and Ride thing runs). Cold and bright walking around. I expressly asked for a Pizza at Pizza Express then we went to see Richard Thompson at the New Theatre. We’ve seen him quite a few times (7? 8?) and he’s always good. They played as a 3 (sometimes 4) piece. He’s a great solo acoustic guitar player but I quite like, and maybe prefer, the band sound. And the band were really good! They played a lot of stuff off his new album (which is pretty good).

There are a lot of guitar solos which I’m normally a bit anti, but his playing is so inventive that I’m prepared to tolerate a lot more.

And I’d forgotten how mordantly bitter some of his songs could be...
