Lime kiln

The Nockberge region is mostly underlain by a contorted basement geology of metamorphosed schists, sandstones and shales. However, there are a few limestone veins that have been worked in the past as evidenced by the lime kilns left behind in these areas where the limestone has been baked to produce quick lime for cement.
