We are having a bit of a tidy up. Years ago I took home from the practice an old obstetrics bag probably from around the 1940s. In those days the vast majority of deliveries were done by GPs. Amongst several pairs of forceps we found this empty bottle of chloroform. I guess this was the anaesthetic of choice in those days. The chemist - Anderson & Spence - on the bottle is still in business.
