"The conifer also known as Coniferophyta is not the oldest tree in the forest, but it is certainly the largest and most successful of it's woodland brothers and sisters in this area. Whinlatter in old tongue is 'The Gorse or furze-covered slope.' Whinlatter pass is also a gateway to the western lakes for anyone willing to face the long meandering uphill track. Just beware of the low mists and keep to the paths as phantoms and things much darker dwell in the deeper parts of this woodland realm." Ole Honker Brown.
