Bordeaux Tramway

Today we went over to Bordeaux for the day. We were looking for bathroom furniture and there is a better choice of showrooms in Bordeaux.
I was impressed by the tram system there which has been introduced over the last 20 years.
A particular feature of the new Bordeaux tram network is its ground-level power supply system which is used in the city centre to avoid overhead wires spoiling the view of buildings. The ground level power rails only actually become live as the tram actually passes over them, so pedestrians can walk safely on them without fear of electrocution! Outside the centre, conventional overhead lines are used. This shot was taken at the point where the ground level supply system starts; you can see this in the photograph.

We didn't have time to go into the city centre, but that is definitely on the cards for next time.
