The Evil Queen

I’m seeing too many of these at present. Wasps, such as this german wasp, are a major pests in New Zealand. They are a nuisance wherever they are, but in the forest they kill baby birds and consume the honeydew and insects that are the native bird’s natural food. Their low buzz pervades the forest, where there used to be birdsong. It has been estimated that they cost the economy $133,000,000 a year with damage to beekeeping, agriculture, forestry and tourism. They are responsible for more people seeking medical attention than any other creature in the country. They spoil the enjoyment of our wild and recreational places.

Extra shot: Back Peak and Otarama through a hole in my hedge.
