How much is a human life worth to you?

2. In relevance to prosecution i would argue that the magistrates rely heavily on the police to provide an answer and in most cases defendants appeal not on the plea but on the sentencing.

3. There is a sheer inconsistency of sentencing (of the same crime) which is seen throughout the UK.

4. Apart from considering the following: Age, seriousness, plea and whether you have a criminal record or not, definitive sentencing guidelines now, have to be used as a basis to help the judge decide on a reasonable sentence on the defendant. These guidelines could be interpreted in many different ways by many different people and could also be bias against those who live in a lower class society.

"Successive sweeps of the British Crime Survey (BCS) and other surveys have shown how poorly informed the public are about crime, the operation of the criminal justice system (CJS) and sentencing in particular". (Chapman, Mirrlees-Black and Brawn, 2002: Online)

In summary it is obvious that political figures don't have a clear view of the criminal catalysts and motivations which plague our societies and such a vest number of communities don't acknowledge the process of the judicial system because we deem it unfair. Unfortunately the people of the nation don't have faith in government leaders to truly believe in what they say and do. However as a society we urgently need to bring together our own knowledge and information to the people around us about all aspects of the criminal justice system, how the government use the media to detract attention and how law itself is produced. Together we need to pin point common crimes within our communities and utilise foundations and meetings run by the local people for the local areas. By doing this we can educate and inspire younger generations to deter from criminal lifestyles. The educational system needs more demand for more in-depth knowledge of the health and safety law and that, all companies should undertake regular health and safety checks with employee's to fully cooperate with and understand the rules and regulations set by the government. In addition to this, the government need to set a prime example of social control which reflects unbiased, coherent and consistent standards.
