Monday: Busy London at Night

I am back in London for a couple of days to attend a meeting of my colleagues from the region.  It was a pretty successful day all in all, and, as I was organising it, I unanimously decided that we were going for a Thai meal in the evening.  Given that my colleagues have come from Central Europe and the Western Balkans there was no argument.  It has been months since any of us have even sniffed a chile!

It feels so odd being back in London.  Odd, in that everything is so familiar and it is as if the last eight months haven't happened.  But I was chatting to K., who is back in Zagreb, this evening and we were commenting that being back home makes you appreciate, and love, the familiarity of things (darn spell check, that originally came out as 'the familiarity of thongs') but it also makes you much more aware of how comfortable familiarity is (for example, getting a little kick out of knowing short cuts, what type of ticket to buy, identifying the gap in traffic at the right time, etc).  And that comfort is a kick in itself. On the other hand, it also makes you appreciate the unfamiliar and loving the fact that every little household chore turns into an adventure.
