Burnham Overy Staithe

Last night dived back from work to catch up with my friend to see Alan Bennett’s ‘Allelujah’.
Up this morning for 6 hours of driving; A1 tedium followed by A17 tedium.
Stepping out of the car to the sound of geese flying overhead...instantly worth it.
Walked swiftly out to the sea, round East Head and back in darkness.
The light was stunning and eventually the sky fell to earth and glowed out from every channel, creek and puddle of water.
Caught up with my sister when she came back from work. We popped over to our lovely neighbours and then back for a very late supper.

No apologies for Mary Oliver’s ‘Wild Geese’ again....

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about your despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting —
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

p.s. i posted this very late and meant to add my apologies ....I think I must be up there for the award of most negligent blipper. I just seem to be posting and running these days. I don’t seem to be able to catch up with myself. I have, though, just renewed my blip sub and wanted to say that this remains the most remarkable community with the most remarkable folk. I am deeply grateful for it. Thank you all for making this place possible x
