Laying the table

One of T's friends had won a prize at a charity auction down at the local. The prize was a dinner for six cooked by the pub chef in the home of the winner. Since we were the only house amongst his friends that still had a diningroom and separate kitchen it was decided to hold it here.

This meant a rapid decluttering of boxes, papers, rubbish, and although it appears tidy in the photograph, behind the door there is a mountain of stuff! The kitchen too had to be springcleaned. It was an odd feeling that someone else was going to cook in your kitchen and you weren't going to be there! N and I had to make ourselves scarce so we braved the storms with boots, mobile phones and torches in the car and drove over to Sherborne where we met friends and went to our favourite restaurant The Green.

Both meals were a great success, although the one at home in the end was for five and not six at the final count. The party had finished by the time we arrived back late. The kitchen and diningroom were left spotless and there was a lingering smell of good food. Everybody was happy.
