tempus fugit

Summer's lease

Nasturtiums are not frost-hardy.

Although I know that a fresh crop will germinate and bloom next year the sight resonated for me with the overwhelming news  that, according to the Living Planet report, the human species has wiped out 60% of vertebrates, lost 50% of shallow-water coral  and destroyed 20% of the Amazon rain forest over the course of the past 50 years - a good deal less than my lifetime. We have fouled our own nest. The consequences are already affecting billions of people the world over and will compromise the lives of future generations. I find this knowledge very hard to bear.
